Playbook · Lead magnet
Turn one reel into an email list.
Post a useful reel, invite people to comment “GUIDE”, and send eligible matching commenters one configured private reply with the resource.
Capabilities
The trigger
Keyword comment on your reel — “GUIDE”, “PDF”, “CHECKLIST”.
The delivery
One configured private reply with your resource link.
The capture
Ask in that reply, or collect configured fields after the person responds.
The ask (optional)
Request a follow before delivery; DM Now cannot verify follow status.
The record
Completed lead fields appear in CRM; delivery context remains in Activity.
The recovery
Re-trigger can recover recent eligible skipped events, within its limits.
Why does comment-to-DM beat link-in-bio for lead magnets?
Link-in-bio asks a hot commenter to cold-navigate: leave the feed, find your profile, tap the bio, pick the right link, fill a form. Each step sheds people. Comment-to-DM inverts it — the person types one word and the guide arrives in their inbox, with the email ask happening inside a conversation they started.
A clear keyword also makes the call to action easy to understand and lets the automation distinguish intended requests from ordinary comments. Results still depend on your content, audience, offer, and Instagram delivery.
How do you set this up in DM Now?
Create an automation, choose the reel or all posts, set the keyword, and configure the public reply and first private reply. Put the link and optional email request in that private reply, or add a wait for a real DM response before later messages. Test with a real Instagram account, then confirm sends and failures in Activity.
Frequently asked questions
- What makes a good lead magnet keyword?
- Short, meaningful, and spoken in the reel: “GUIDE”, “PLAN”, “RECIPE”. Avoid words people would comment naturally for other reasons unless you want everyone caught.
- Where does the actual PDF live?
- Anywhere reachable by link — your storefront on DM Now, a notion page, a drive link. The automation delivers the URL; the bonus-email step can gate the extras.
- Can I run this on a reel I posted last month?
- An active media-scoped automation can handle new eligible comments on an older reel. Re-trigger is different: it is bounded recovery for recent skipped events and does not scan months of old comments.
- Does this fit in the Free plan?
- It can. Free includes unlimited automations with monthly limits of 1,000 DMs and 1,000 new contacts. Multi-step conversations use more than one DM, and Meta delivery limits still apply.
